BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ASSOCIATION
CHARACTER OF OUR ASSOCIATION
The members of our association are Veterans of Independence War who fought to drive out the enemies from our country under the command of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Great Leader who founded the Turkish Republic, Korean War Veterans who fought and helped the Korean people in order that they could attain their freedom and fought for the World freedom and the veterans of Cyprus Peace Operation who saved the innocent Turkish Cypriots from annihilation completely in the paws of Megalo Idea. Our association is in the frame of associations that work for the public welfare.
AIMS OF OUR ASSOCIATION
Our association pursues the Atatürk's principles and revolution.
Our association keeps the memories of ex-military personnel who participated in the wars at home or abroad and participated in the national independence war against the occupying powers whether the war was declared or not.
Our association helps the veterans and widows of veterans to meet with each other and helps them to establish solidarity among themselves.
Our association provides the veterans and widows of veterans with social, economic, cultural and spiritual needs.
Our association follows up the rights of its members that were resulted from the laws and brings them to a conclusion.
Our association tells the conflicts that were took place for the unity of nation, indivisibility of state and establishment and preservation of republic, bloods that were shed for those purposes and heroes who were martyred or became veterans during those conflicts to the new generations. Our association engages in varies activities like faithfulness to national traditions and customs; strengthening the traits of sacrifice, solidarity and helping one another and work hard effectively to glorify these qualifications and characters.
Being attached to the Atatürk's principles and revolutions, our association contributes to the eternal preservation studies of our nations, country, state, history, beliefs and national culture.

MEMBERSHIP CONDITIONS
The members of our associations are divided into three groups:
1. Related/potential members (Veterans whose backgrounds fit in with Law No: 2847).
2. Ordinary Members (Those veterans who apply to the association for membership, promise to comply with the Constitutional Rules of Association and after the approval of the Executive Board they become an ordinary members).
3. Affiliated Members
Related/potential members should apply to the association fill out the membership form to be an ordinary member and attached the following documents to their application:
a. A copy of their ID card for veterans,
b. Two photographs,
c. Residence Paper,
d. Receipt for the membership payment
Whenever his/her membership is approved by the Executive Board, an ID card is prepared and issued to the veteran. Those ordinary members who are punished for the disciplinary action in accordance with Constitutional Rule No: 49 will lose their membership.
INCOME OF OUR ASSOCIATION
Income of association includes the annual dues decided by the Executive Board every year, financial aids and contributions. Annual dues, financial aids and contributions are received and accepted by the associations in return for receipt of payment.

WHO IS VETERAN?
WHAT ARE HIS RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS?
1. A Veteran (It is called Ghazi in Turkish) is considered a hero by our society.
2. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is the most distinguished and legendary Ghazi of the Republic of Turkey.
3. A Ghazi is an esteemed and dignified person and has a high degree of morality and virtue in Turkish society.
4. A Ghazi is always loyal to his country and is ready to sacrifice his life for his country on the battlefield.
5. A Ghazi is grateful to his state because it provides him with medical care and a free travel card on the municipality buses, state trains and ships. His government also pays a pension to him for his service during the war. He is always loyal to his country; never offends his country and never cooperates with the enemies of his country.
6. A Ghazi is always friendly and sincere towards his fellow citizens. He tolarates the wrong behavior of his veteran friends and his citizens.
7. A Ghazi is never offensive to his association and always loyal to his association. He is always respectful of the laws of the Republic of Turkey and regulation of the association.
8. A Ghazi gets along with his friends and his principle is to be a respectful and a charming person.
9. A Ghazi knows very well that the interests of his country, state, association and his fellow veterans are more important than his own interests.
10. A Ghazi is always respectful towards his elder friends.
11. A Ghazi never tries to get any benefit from the respectfulness show to a ghazi or exploite it for his personal benifit because the title of ghazi is respectful and is a dignified position in our society. A Ghazi never goes about begging.
12. A Ghazi knows that the Turkish War Veterans Association is not a related or affiliated association with any other organization in his country. Therefore he knows that he should not be a member of similar organizations or should not involve himself in the activites of those associations in conjunction with the war veterans.
13. Every Ghazi may have a political view and inclination. But a Ghazi must not use the title of Ghazi or the name of assocation for his political purposes. A Ghazi must not participate in the rallies or meetings of political parties on behalf of the Turkish War Veterans Association. None of Ghazis must not talk about the politics or discuss the political subjects at the Turkish War Veterans Association.
14. A Ghazi always keeps loves of Atatürk, country and flag as well as the passion of the Republic and pride of being a Turk in his/her heart.
BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT TURKISH WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION
HISTORY OF ASSOCIATION:
The Turkish War Veterans Association was established by a group of Ghazis of Independence War who resigned from the former War Veterans Association in 1965. In accordance with the law No: 2847 dated: 16.06.1983, The Ghazis of the Independence War, Korean War and Cyprus Peace Operation were united under the name of Turkish War Veterans Association.
LEGAL STATUS AND MEMBERS:
As our association has a similar position with the associations that work for the benifit of public, it gets financial aid and contributions from the state agencies, local administrations, state-owned economic enterprises and affiliated institutions in accordance with the Article no: 10 of the Law of Associations no: 5253.
Our association has 19.000 members registered with its 50 provincial offices and with the represenation offices at 26 towns. Our members are veterans of the war of Independence and created the nickname, "Mehmetçik" for the Turkish serviceman; Korean veterans who saved the innocent and loyal Koreans from the claw and hegemony of communism at the cost of their lives saved the freedom of the Korean people and contributed to world peace; the veterans of the Cyprus Peace Operation who saved our brother Turkish Cypriots from the claw of the Megalo-idea of the Greek-Cypriots and protected them from extermination. The members of our association preserved the freedom of our innocent Turkish Cypriots brother during the Cyprus Peace Operation.
MISSION OF OUR ASSOCIATION:
1. Follows the Principles and Revolution of Atatürk,
2. Preserves the memories of the veterans who fought in the wars at home and abroad,
3. Organizes social activities for the wives of veterans in order that they can meet with each other and foster solidarity among the wives of veterans,
4. Meets the social, economic, cultural and spiritual needs of veterans,
5. Follows up the legal rights of veterans arising from the laws.
ACTIVITIES OF OUR ASSOCIATION:
1. Celebrates the Day of Ghazis on the 19th of September and Ghazi Week that follows this date. As you know the rank of Marshal and title of Ghazi were given for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on this date,
2. Participates in the following ceremonies, parades and commemorations:
a. Kumyangjan-Ni Victory 25th of January
b. Navy War of Dardanelles 18th of March
c. Land War of Dardanelles 25th of April
d. Commemoration of Atatürk,
Youth and Sport Day 19th of May
e. Korean War 25th of June
f. Cyprus Peace Operation 20th of July
g. Victory Day 30th of August
h. Pitched Battle of Sakarya 13th of September
i. Republic Day 29th of October
j. Anniversarry of Atatürk's Death and Week of Atatürk 10th of November
k. Independence Day of important Cities & towns
3. Cooperates with the Turkish Retired Officers Association (TESUD); the Turkish Retired Non-Commissioned Officers Association (TEMAD); Turkish Association of War Disabled, Widows and Orphans to participate in those ceremonies & commemorations in accordance with the Law of Military Associations No: 2847,
4. Participates in the meetings & activies of the World Veterens Federation (WVF) located in Paris, France and International Federation of Korean War Veterans Assocaition (IFKWVA) located in Seoul, Korea and the activies of other Veterans Association,
5. Establishes a fund with the participations of its members to help the veterans in need and works to improve the living standard of their members,
6. Coordinates with the local authorities in big cities to obtain more land for graves of the veterans to allocate them as it was allocated by the local authorities in Ankara, Bursa, İstanbul and Zonguldak,
7. Opens Veterans Clubs and establishes veteran foundations,
8. Organizes conferences, panels and visits schools in Turkey to promote the Turkish War Veterans Association,
9. Supports its branch offices located in other cities and towns in organizing and participating in similar activies mentioned above in item no: 2,
BENEFİTS AND RIGHTS OF VETERANS:
-Receives Honorary Salary from the State Employees Pension Fund (Those veterans who do not have social security receives as much as Minumum Wage decided by the Government),
-Gets free health service,
-Travels free of charge by the state-owned trains and ships during their domestic trips and travels free of charge by the Municipality buses in cities and at downtowns,
-Municipalities make around 40 percent discounts for the electiricity and 50 percent for water consumption at their homes,
-The children of Veterans can stay free of charge at the state-owned dormitories,
-Veterans are given priority to get a job,
-Veterans can stay at the temporary lodging facilities of military hospitals,
-Veterans can use the parking areas of the Municipalities without paying parking fee,
-Veterans can observe the state ceremonies at the state protocol section,
-Land of graves is allocated by the local authorities for the veterans and their graves are constructed by the Turkish War Veterans Association,
-Veterans can enter stadiums & sport centers to watch sport games and watch play at the state theater free of charge ,
-Veterans can freely use the social facilities of the State Employees Pension Fund,
-Veterans' wives receive the 75 percent of the above-mentioned salaries when they died. Furthermore, if their wives die, their daughter and son who are in needy receive the 75 percent of the above-mentioned salaries/
-Veterans receive discount for their handphone bills from GSM operators,
-Turkish General Staff (TGS) provides the Veterans & bedridden patients of the Independence War and their wives with the medical services at their homes when required,
-Watches the plays free of charge at the State theaters & operas.
INCOME OF ASSOCIATION:
-Dues that are decided by the General Assembly of the Turkish War Veterans Association and collected from the members,
-Cash donations and aid in kind that are made by the benefactors,
-Donation that is made by the Turkish General Staff,
-Donation that is made by the Ministry of Defense to attend the international activities,
-Donation that is made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Our association is a respected and very well known one by both Turkish Armed Forces and Turkish people. It is our responsibility to promote and improve it. We should not consider enough what we did for our members and association, we have to work hard to improve the living standard of our members and promote our association.
